See what I did there? (; anyway, found out from This and That that yesterday was National Punctuation Day! My favorite piece of punctuation to look at is the semicolon; but I think that the dash is very useful. Here are some fun punctuation things.
-I once knew a person who made a team for a bicycling race and they all put a 3-d punctuation mark on their heads.
-I frequently overuse dashes in my writing.
Now enjoy some lovely quotes on punctuation (courtesy of this site):
“From one casual of mine he picked this sentence. “After dinner, the men moved into the living room.” I explained to the professor that this was Ross’s way of giving the men time to push back their chairs and stand up. There must, as we know, be a comma after every move, made by men, on this earth.”- James Thurber
“No iron can pierce the heart with such force as a period put just at the right place.”-Isaac Babel
“Cut out all these exclamation points. An exclamation point is like laughing at your own joke.”-F. Scott Fitzgerald
“My attitude toward punctuation is that it ought to be as conventional as possible…You ought to be able to show that you can do it a good deal better than anyone else with the regular tools before you have a license to bring in your own improvements.”-Ernest Hemingway
