This happened a couple of weeks ago, but Pemberley Digital (aka DFTBA records, I think) has begun to adapt Jane Austen’s Emma for YouTube in the format of a video blog. After the success of The Lizzie Bennet Diaries last year– it won an Emmy– the makers tided the fans over this summer with a spin-off series starring Gigi Darcy. Well, the wait is over and Emma is here! I am so excited. I honestly think that this is an amazing project. It is so cool to see how literature is being modernized and how our exposure to the past is changing. This new format for Austen’s books is highly contemporary. YouTube exploded only a few years ago. As a result it is a medium that is highly accessible to viewers. In a day and age when so much focus is on science and technology, it is refreshing to see someone bridging the gap! Tune in Mondays and Thursdays to see new episodes of Emma!
